NO LIMITS PARTNERS WITH CALIFORNIA LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY

A WIN-WIN PARTNERSHIP

California Lutheran University’s graduate Deaf and Hard of Hearing program is proud to partner with No Limits for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children to prepare the next generation of teachers for children with hearing loss.  CLU’s program is designed for working professionals who are specially trained in spoken language instruction for this population of children.

No Limits provides an ideal practicum site for the CLU teacher candidates while also assisting those families on the NL waiting list who are interested in obtaining free, individual listening, language and speech therapy for the children who are deaf and hard of hearing.  It is a laboratory of excellence in a caring and supportive environment.  The teacher candidates learn in a highly supervised, and supportive place, knowing that they are serving deaf children who would not otherwise have access to individual therapy during the summer months.

Each summer, 7-8 CLU teacher candidates are assigned a caseload of No Limits students and their parents.  Under the supervision of Dr. Maura Martindale and Michelle Christie-Adams, each CLU candidate provides assessment, planning, instruction, and parent education during hour-long sessions each week.  Parents actively participate in the sessions, and are expected to carry through with specific activities all week long.

In a true win-win scenario, California Lutheran University teacher candidates gain valuable teaching experiences and No Limits families receive needed educational services.
